Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag Review

The world of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will keep you occupied for days. We had a great time just sailing around and seeing what trouble we could get into. So lets take a look at how the game measures up, just be ready to dispatch any bad pirates you might run into along the way.

Gameplay

The gameplay is very different from the previous games, which means that there’s a lot of stuff that you’ll need to get used to. For example, each pirate ship you’ll meet will have its own combination of pirates you’ll have to outsmart and kill. Also, on each ship there’s an area where you can go out of sight, and while doing so you can plunder and steal everything you can carry. This is the biggest thing in the game, you will be making sure you find everything you can carry when sneaking off to these areas, you want to be prepared to make your most of this pirate hide out. Stealth is a real highlight of the game, the lack of line of sight makes sneaking around from enemy guard positions a breeze.

Graphics

The graphics in this game are nothing short of stunning. The art direction is fantastic, and the environments in the game look as good as they did on the consoles. The buildings have depth and is very well detailed. As you sail along the water you see ships that are just as detailed as the buildings and it looks awesome. Unfortunately the frame rate can get choppy at times, but don’t let that deter you from playing.

Replayability

We love a game that allows you to play through the game more than once. We often find a game we love so much we want to replay it multiple times. That is just part of the appeal for us. Another draw to a game like Assassin’s Creed IV is the difficulty options. You can play the game at whatever level you feel comfortable. You might take a role of a soldier while your friend plays as a smuggler. You have many options and choices that will shape your gaming experience. At no point did we feel frustrated in any way. Sure it took some time to get use to the new controls and how the game behaves, but it was only temporary. Like all other titles in the Assassin’s Creed series, Assassin’s Creed IV allows you to experience and level-up your abilities in the form of attribute points.

Conclusion

With the biggest complaint being a lack of customization options, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag delivers a vast, fresh, and fun experience. Navigate the seas with your ship’s master at your side, facing pirates, hostile enemies, as well as wildlife that comes to the island to meet their doom. Compared to other sea-based titles this may not be the biggest or best, but it is certainly a good enough game to warrant a purchase.
